Course Aims:
This course is specifically designed towards a Technician who needs to understand the modern vehicle fitted with a CAN-BUS communication system. Most vehicles are now fitted with some type of communication system and this can, if not understood, prevent many simple diagnoses of vehicle faults. Different types of CAN communication with protocols will be unraveled from the simple 16pin DLC connector to the high speed systems fitted for Engine management and ABS communication.
Extensive practical sessions will used throughout the course involving the construction of a CAN-BUS system using Locktronics with on-vehicle testing to back up the theory.
On completion of the course, the delegate will feel competent and confident to identify, test and diagnose CAN-BUS systems found on all modern vehicles.
- The use of an Oscilloscope to capture and analyse CAN-BUS communication and messages
- CAN-BUS canaliser will be demonstrated to support the content of this course
Contents Covered:
- Advantages of CAN
- ECU action and function
- CAN message structure
- Start up routines
- Wiring in CAN bus systems
- Intelligent design
- CAN bus diagnosis
- Scan tool use in fault diagnosis and release
Note: A good understanding of electrical circuits and testing prior to attending will enable the delegate to absorb more of this course’s content. Attending our Ei1 course will help.
